Christmas Ads 2023 Part 3: The Top 5 Portugal Christmas Ads

Our final stop on the most engaging Christmas Ads of 2023 takes us to Portugal, where we also tested the campaigns that local and global brands launched to reach and engage consumers.

Similarly to the US and the UK, this is also a season where brands and creative agencies strive to bring their A-game into the spotlight and create some of the most memorable brand campaigns in the country. With a mix of strategies ranging from local creatives to global ones, we were curious to see the results and understand if emotion plays the same strings around the world.

So let’s dive in and see which ads engaged Portuguese audiences the most.

Top 5 Portugal Christmas Ads 2023

5. MEO: Dá Espaço à Partilha

We start our ranking with Portuguese telecom giant MEO, which created a Christmas ad that also promotes the company’s latest social initiative of pairing young students looking for a home with senior citizens who live alone. An emotional story that engaged the audience.

4. Lidl: Um Natal Mágico

Lidl’s “A Magical Christmas” also makes the Top 5 ranking in Portugal, after being the third most engaging Christmas ad in the UK. The helpful racoon also managed to grab Portuguese hearts and help the German retail chain become one of the top brands this year.

2. Amazon: Joy Ride

Second place is taken by an “old acquaintance” from both the US and the UK rankings, as Amazon’s Joy Ride showed its international appeal by also grabbing a spot on Portugal’s Top 5 Christmas Ads for 2023.

1. Worten – Tem tudo para não te esqueceres de nada neste Natal

Christmas ads usually appeal more to feelings of belonging and to holiday traditions. But Worten, the Portuguese tech retailer, showed that humor is often the best solution for an engaging ad, especially if it ties up with an ongoing campaign. For the 2023 Christmas season, the company continued their longstanding partnership with Portuguese comedian Ricardo Araújo Pereira, who plays the part of a forgotten Santa Claus ornament that was left hanging from the previous year. Simple, funny, and effective.
